Power Profile!

Your United States Strongman, Inc. POWER Profile features Minnesota State Representative Tim Kovach, who will be hosting the first official United States Strongman, Inc. event on August 9th!

Here's Tim in his own words.

I'll start this bio from early on. I was born and raised in Bloomington, Minnesota. I attended High School at John F. Kennedy Senior H.S. were i wrestled all 4 years. I started strength training around my sophomore and junior years to get stronger for wrestling. Once wrestling was finished I continued to train in the gym but followed more of a bodybuilder type training than anything else.

Around the time my second child was born I decided that 5-6 days in the gym wasn't really going to be possible, so I looked at different programs that had me in the gym 3-4 days a week. I found Jim Wendlers 5/3/1 and started focusing on getting much stronger. While visiting some family in the Quad Cities in 2009, I stumbled upon a strongman competition. I found the promoters contact info and gave him a call. It turns out that promoter was Willie Wessels. He suggested I just give it a try despite the fact that I have never touched an implement at any time prior to this contest. I entered the contest and despite finishing dead last, I was hooked on the sport. When I got home I immediately looked for another contest which was IL Strongest Man. I entered in the 200lb weight class and won.

As the months went by I was trying to find someone else near me to train with who had the equipment. I believe it was early 2010 that I met my co-state rep Pete Berg. Pete invited me to come out and train and we have been training events ever since. He taught me how to do things properly so that I could get better and stronger. We have supported each other in one way or another for the last 4 years so it only makes sense that we co-rep the state together.

Since I started competing in strongman, I have one the IL Strongest Man (200lb) once, the MN Strongman Championships 3 times(200lb), I finished 3rd at the 2012 National Championships (175lb), and 2nd at the 2013 Strongman Fitness World Championships. Through that time I have learned so much about the sport, and made many friends. I really feel that the close friends I've made in strongman will be friends for life. I feel that strongman can enrich your life through the friendships and experiences, and you will have the friends and memories for the rest of your life.
