Your United States Strongman is proud to announce that New Mexico has a new State Rep! The Land of Enchantment has an enchantress indeed! Sara Hernandez is a Strongwoman competitor and a promoter, and she is ready to take her game and New Mexico to the National level and beyond! Her is Sara in her own words:
My first strongman show was NAS' Battle of the Borders 2011 hosted by NAS former state chair Travis Clary. I was the first woman to ever compete in this competition. Having never done anything close to strongman before, Travis agreed to coach me after a lot of begging and pleading. Because of Travis' encouragement and patience, I discovered a passion for this sport.
I qualified for NAS Nationals in 2012 and got my ass handed to me. After that, I took big step back to focus on building strength and working on technique. I was the only woman locally that trained and competed in strongman.
In 2014, I took over organization and promotion of San Juan College's small, local strongman competition, Clash of the Titans, with the goal of increasing the numbers of competitors and attracting more female athletes. I've successfully managed to boost registration by 10+ every year. This is currently the only strongman competition in New Mexico.
My goals are to simply improve myself every day, inspire more women to embrace strength sports and to promote strongman in NM. Now that I've triumphantly managed to qualify for Nationals in 2017, my mission is to place in the top 5.
Welcome to the revolution, Sara!
