My name is Shawn Schumaker and I am the USS State Rep for Ohio. I started weight training in 1994, for no other reason than to be strong. I started competing in bodybuilding in 2007 and continued until 2011. I trained like a strongman competitor most of my bodybuilding career because it seemed to keep me leaner and more muscular overall.
I entered my first strongman competition shortly after my last bodybuilding competition and became hooked immediately. The intensity of the competition and warm welcome from the community really drew me in. In 2011, I opened up my training facility, TeamBSS, which started off as a bodybuilding and strongman based facility. BSS now offers everything from strongman to CrossFit to bodybuilding to general fitness.
We are a very competition driven facility hosting multiple fitness and strongman competitions each year. I believe it is very difficult to find your full potential unless you are trying to beat people who are better than you. Competition is healthy and forces you to grow and become better.
I have big plans for the strongman community and can’t wait to see them unfold. Stay tuned!!
